With the conclusion of the last qualifying round, everything is ready for the main draw of the FIP Star Gran Canaria 2024 – international padel tournament that belongs to the Cupra FIP Tour 2024 – to get underway tomorrow at 9am. The four pairings that made it through the qualifying round to go through to the main event were decided yesterday, including the Gran Canarian duo of Rubén Álamo and Óscar Domínguez, along with the pairings of José Antonio Crespo and Carlos González and Alejandro Cañete and Carlos Cabo. The fourth place was still being disputed at the time of going to press between the Canarian Alejandro Reino and Álvaro Morales, and the island paddler Alejandro Acosta and his partner Iker Jiménez.
A vibrant match between the youngest pairing in the draw, Canarian juniors Carlos Flores and Juan Figueroa and the number five pairing from the qualifying round, Ruben Alamo and Oscar Dominguez, who started the match with a clear advantage against a pairing that was gradually gaining confidence. The increasingly animated stands did not stop applauding both pairings. Alamo and Dominguez finally won 6-4 and 7-5, after suffering more than expected in the second set.
In the closest match of the day, the victory went to Alejandro Cañete and Carlos Cabo against Diego García and Wichy Hernández (6-4, 4-6, 6-3).
For their part, José Antonio Crespo and Guillermo Molina sealed their place in the main draw by defeating Guillén Macías and Carlos González in two sets (6-2, 6-3).
